ubuntu 64 bits no reconoce toda mi memoria ram (4GB)

Me compré un portátil en julio de 2009. Se trataba de un intel pentium dual-core processor t3400 con 2.16Ghz con 4GB DDR2 de memoria RAM y con arquitectura de 64bits. Comencé por instalarle ubuntu 9.04 en su versión de 32 bits y quitar el Vista que traía de serie. Poco después, al actualizar a 9.10 me di cuenta de que el PC sólo me reconocía 2,9GB de los 4,0GB que tenía. Indagando un poco vi que se trataba de la versión de Ubuntu instalada, ya que con una instalación de Ubuntu 32 bits como mucho puede coger 2,9GB. No obstante, como me conformaba y no tenía mucho tiempo, no me preocupé. Ahora en Agosto de 2010, como tenía tiempo pensé en limpiar el portátil y pasarme a la versión 10.04 haciendo una instalación limpia con lo que aprovecho para instalar ubuntu 10.04 en su versión de 64bits. Tras realizar la misma, mi sorpresa fue que sigo teniendo 2,9GB de los 4GB que realmente tengo. Me gustaría saber ¿qué es lo que ha falla? (no he encontrado solución por ninguna parte).

PD: No me déis mucha caña que todavía soy un poco novato aunque lleve un año con Ubuntu je je.

Pues lo que hago es SISTEMA-->ADMINISTRACIÓN-->MONITOR DEL SISTEMA-->RECURSOS y me dice que tengo 2.9GB. En cambio, en la etiqueta del ordenador dice 4GB ddr2, en la caja igual, y en la publicidad lo mismo.

No había caido antes. Si es un portátil es muy probable que esté reservando una parte de la memoria para la tarjeta de vídeo integrada.

Muchas gracias de antemano por la ayuda.
yo creo que también tengo el mismo problema. En el monitor del sistema aparecen 3.1 gb de ram ...en sistema y en recursos, pero cuando consulto la bios me dice que tengo 4 gb. 2 unidades de 2gb cada una.
Cambié a una versión 32bit en la que instalé un kernel pae,...y nada. Ahora estoy en ubuntu 64bit con kernel 2.6.32-24-server y nada.
Solo que mi máquina es una desktop y no laptop.

Agradezco cualquier aclaración sobre el tema. Un abrazo fuerte a todos!

Con el comando dmesg se muestran los mensajes del kernel desde que arranca. Ahí aparece bastante información sobre la configuración de memoria al principio del arranque. Pega esa información aquí a ver si alguien lo sabe interpretar.

Buenos días a todos.

Soy real y totalmente novato en software libre y por supuesto en UBUNTU 10.04, tengo el mismo problema de NO RECONOCIMIENTO del total de mi RAM de 4Gb, en mi sistema ke es de 32b; y ya he leído los comentarios de este post y comprendo ke tal vez el inicio del asunto radica en ke tengo un problema de arquitectura :); sin embargo no hay nada ke hacer? recuerdo ke en windows vista home premium tenia el mismo problema y con la ayuda de alguien logre hacer ke reconociera finalmente toda la memoria, no recuedo si fue un service pack o algo así, en fin.

Habrá algo ke pueda hacer en mi UBUNTU?

Tengo el mismo problema, ubuntu de 64 bits no me reconoce todo el RAM (debería tener 4 Gb. y tengo 2). Se trata de un portátil con 512 Mb. de RAM dedicados. Aquí lo que dice el comando:

Mencionas que tu arquitectura es de 32 bits. Bueno pues independiente al Sistema (windows, linux o MacOS X) lo que sucede en este caso es que deberias migrar tu arquitectura a 64.
No se trata de ningun parche o nada de eso. Tampoco es capricho numerico. La de 32 solo soporta hasta 3 GB. Esa diferencia incluso en chipsets de Intel no se siente.
Me refiero a que si tu no tienes una tarjeta externa (no un chipset de video como el 3150 de Intel) no te va a respetar ese Giga que te falta. Prueba reconfigurando desde la BIOS para que no tome el maximo de memoria compartida en video. De esta manera deberia liberar al menos 500 MB.

Yo tenía el mismo problema en mi Acer Aspire 5930G, y no era que la gráfica usase parte de la RAM, es que la BIOS no admitía redireccionar más de 2.99 GB. Fuí a la página de Acer, descargué la última BIOS y ya me reconoció toda la RAM, por desgracia eso hay que hacerlo desde Windows.
Probad a ver que tal.
