(SOLUCIONADO) Monitor no compatible con linux

Hola a todos.
Mi problema básicamente consiste en que ninguna versión de linux reconoce mi lcd. Con windows XP/7 no tengo problema, todo funciona correctamente y a 1440x900 pero si me paso a linux... no paso de 1024. he probado con varias distribuciones y conectando el lcd a otro ordenador y obtengo el mismo resultado. El lcd es un grunkel G-1908 19" hd ready y la tarjeta a la que esta actualmente conectado es una radeom x1950pro. Es una lastima que me de este fallo porque me limita muchísimo, así que estoy intentado por todos los medios solucionarlo. He pensado que todo podría solucionarse con la configuración optima del Xorg pero no consigo configurarlo.
¿Alguna idea al respecto? ¿sería posible crear un xorg.conf desde windows?

Edito: comentar también que como el lcd no dispone de entrada dvi, tengo un conversor dvi-vga entre el lcd y la gráfica

buenas, el DVI-I tiene señal doble VGA-DVI y el "conversor" es en realidad un simple conector. Para ver qué sucede buscar Xorg.0.log en /var/log las líneas relacionadas con el EDID. Es posible o que el EDID esté funcionando mal o que tengas en xorg.conf valores incorrectos que impiden una resolución mayor (podría ser que el controlador libre necesite que le digas que tu monitor alcanza los 1440x900). Buenas, la parte del EDID es esta. Como ves el modo máximo que te reconoce es 1024x768. Eso significa que tienes que crear un xorg.conf para especificar los modos de vídeo que soporta tu monitor realmente (quizá sea un bug, si en w$ te lo reconoce perfectamente). Simplemente prueba a añadir esto a lo que tienes ahora mismo en xorg.conf:

Lo que marco en negrita es lo que puede provocar que no arranque el servidor gráfico correctamente, si fuerzas la resolución de 1440x900 a una frecuencia que no reconozca tu monitor (para eso se supone que sirve el EDID cuando funciona correctamente).

Lo dicho todo sigue estando igual. Arranca en 1024x768 y en opciones de pantalla solo me aparecen los modos "1024x768" "800x600". Lo que mas me mosquea de todo esto es que Windows no tiene ningún problema y linux es imposible.
¿Alguna idea más?

buenas, en ese caso tienes que añadir las opciones del modeline del monitor. En este hilo (pasa página hasta llegar): http://www.ubuntu-es.org/node/161520 tienes explicaciones de cómo hacerlo.

Si te fijas ya tienes esto:

Pues se trata de añadir la línea de configuración en xorg.conf para 1440x900 que corresponde con tu monitor.

Por otro lado me temo que no entiendes qué es linux y de dónde sale el controlador libre que estás usando con tu tarjeta gráfica. Linux y los programadores que lo hacen posible no tienen la culpa si los fabricantes no liberan todas las especificaciones técnicas ni rarezas de sus productos para hacer controladores libres. Entendería que te quejaras de W$ si has pagado dinero por él, pero de linux desde luego no.

Básicamente obtengo la nueva modeline con "cvt 1440 900"

Si lo hago me devuelve esto:

En cuanto llegue a mi casa lo pruebo y os comento.
Con respecto a linux, no soy ni mucho menos un experto, tan solo un usuario más que piensa que linux le saca mas partido a tu pc y que únicamente me quejo del problema y de lo molesto que es. Entiendo perfectamente las limitaciones que puede ocasionar un sistema libre. Perdonad si he ofendido a alguien expresándome, todos hacéis un gran trabajo al intentar solucionar estos problemas.

Lo dicho, en cuanto pueda pruebo de nuevo y os comento.

buenas, a mí lo que realmente me sorprende es que funcione, y que a los seis meses de salir un producto al mercado ya esté soportado por el kernel en ubuntu (generalmente, al menos dispositivos corrientes). Teniendo en cuenta el poco apoyo que suele prestar la industria desde luego es un logro. Saludos cordiales.

Más detalles no sé, por eso te hacía referencia al otro hilo del foro, pero el modeline va donde te digo (sacado de "man xorg.conf"). Puedes probar si te basta simplemente con xorg.conf, pero también si te funciona:

xrandr --newmode "1440x900" 106.50 1440 1528 1672 1904 900 903 909 934 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode DVI-0 1440x900
xrandr --output DVI-0 --mode 1440x900
