dmesg es el registro de lo que pasa cuando el sistema arranca, dmesg lo que hace es registrar todo lo que dice el kernel cuando arranca, que hardware reconoce, que demonios se inician, que responde el hardware cuando este le manda ordenes, etc.

Eso que esta ahí es el arranque de tu sistema operativo y no dejará de registrar eventos cuando apagues la computadora.

Ubuntu está 100% operativo es que está bien.
Los diagnósticos son necesarios si algo falla.
El comando dmesg es lo que te señala José Luis.
Para saber qué pasa con algún dispositivo puedes verlo en terminal unido a grep, vg.:
dmesg | grep -i usb
dmesg | grep -i tty (puertos seriales que por string menciona como tty)
dmesg | grep -i memory
dmesg | grep -i dma (duros en DMA)
También puedes ver el archivo con :
cat /var/log/dmesg | less
