Imposible iniciar sesión, después del borrado de carpeta /tmp/

Bueno, el problema es que en el intento de querer limpiar mi sistema de forma manual, según había visto en unos foros (ajenos a éste), borre la carpeta /root/tmp usando terminal, con el comando ''sudo rm'' para poder acceder a ella. Seguí trabajando normalmente, para mi sorpresa, cuando reinicié me mandaba a la pantalla de inicio de sesión, donde tengo que poner mi contraseña, entonces, la pongo correctamente y aparentemente hace como que ''va entrar'' pero me regresa a la pantalla de inicio de sesión. No me deja usar la cuenta de invitado porque también me regresa a lo mismo, había visto otros foros que borrando el .Xauthority era posible arreglar este problema en modo recuperación con la terminal, según me muevo entre mis archivos de mi home y sólo me da las carpetas principales (no me deja borrar ningún archivo oculto pues éstos no los muestra ni con el comando ''ls''). También intenté borrar ese archivo desde una live usb con Ubuntu 12.10 montando la partición de Ubuntu y ahí sí puedo ver los archivos ocultos (ctrl+H), pero me es imposible borrarlos desde nautilus, lo borro moviéndome a dicha partición con el comando rm -f, a pesar de eso el archivo sigue estando ahí y al reiniciar sigue dándome el mismo problema. ¿Qué podría hacer?

Sé que quizás iba ser malo borrar esa carpeta pero bueno, de los errores se aprende.

Vemos por que algo mas hiciste:
En mi sistema no tengo la carpeta /roo/tmp
Y dudo que borrando el .Xauthority, donde dices que te recomendaron o viste esa opción.
Mejor mira que error te arroja cuando inicias la pc. Donde te inicias sesion "(donde te loogeas).
Presionas las teclas Control+Alt+F1 (o f2,f3), y entras en la terminal, pones tu usuario y contraseñas , y miras que error te da.

Tambièn ya habìa probado eso de loguearse mero cuando està iniciando sesiòn uno mismo. Inicio sesiòn poniendo mis datos de usuario dàndole enter, no tira absolutamente ningùn error o algo fuera de lo normal.
Aquì fue donde encontrè http://atopeconlamaquina.blogspot.mx/2011/10/no-puedo-iniciar-sesion-con... lo que decìa que habìa de borrar el .Xauthority, lo borro (en la pàgina tiene una ''n'' de màs) , intentè todo lo descrito pero sigue sin iniciar sesión el equipo. Por cierto, no era /root/tmp sino /tmp/. No sé si exista forma de reparar ello o cómo se podría solucionar. Gracias por la respuesta.

Pues yo estoy en 13.04 y no tengo este archivo.
el mas parecido es .ICEauthority
Y en cuanto al inicio te logeas y entras bien desde la terminal, si entras bien ejecuta:
primero para ver si una partición no esta llena y se el problema
df -h

si te marca que una partición esta en uso del 99 %, mira cual es. Si esta bien el espacio libre, ejecuta
startx
y debes de cargar el entorno e iniciar, (lo acabo de proba, estoy en ubuntu-gnome). Si no carga mira que error te da.

FInalmente me tira algo diciendo

Fatal Server Error: Failed to activate core devices.
Al principio de ello dice error de XKEYBOARD y abajo Cannot open ''/tmp/filexxxxx'' to write key.
Creo que ese es el error cuando borré la carpeta /tmp/, les agradecería mucho su apoyo sobre cómo recuperar dichos archivos. Ya que Windows poco o ningún uso le daba, y ahora tengo que regresar a él para arreglar mi Ubuntu.

y algo que podría ayudares ver los logs, para verlos, y los últimos 20 en la terminal ejecuta:
tail -n 20 /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Releyendo tu ultimo post. si borraste la carpeta /tmp, vuélvela a crear
sudo mkdir /tmp
y reinicias y pruebas.

En cuanto a los logs no tenía ni idea de cómo los iba a copiar desde Ubuntu sin siquiera tener cómo copiarlo y pegarlo acá así que use una herramienta (Ext2Explore) para extraer los archivos. En cuanto a lo del segundo comando, decía que ya existía la carpeta así que la borré y la volví a crear a ver si funcionará. Aquí están los 2 logs, ambos separados por una línea de guiones bajos

Para textos muy largos como el que pusiste usa un servidor externo, como este http://paste.ubuntu.com/ .

Intenta lo siguiente, inicia en modo recovery y después inicia como root (no uso Ubuntu así que búscale cómo), una vez hecho eso, en la TTY de root ejecuta lo siguiente:

cd /
mkdir tmp2; chmod 755 tmp2; mv tmp tmp_old; mv tmp2 tmp
chmod 1777 /tmp

En serio, muchas gracias, pensé que no lo iba arreglar hoy mismo pero gracias a su ayuda lo logré. Básicamente lo que escribió rioport fue la solución, entré a la pantalla de inicio de sesión con ctrl+alt+F1 y ya estando en la TTY le escribí dichos comandos, previamente le había puesto sudo -s para loguearme como root y ya después a hacer todo lo escrito. Después escribí la contraseña y entré sin problemas, eso sí, la hora estaba cambiada pero problema arreglado. Muchas gracias a todos.
