Problemas con los drivers oficiales nVidia + resolución pantalla
Buenas, soy un usuario de Kubuntu bastante novato (casi forzado, ya que lo necesitaba para la universidad), y he estado usando los drivers "nv" por defecto hasta que me fijé que el sistema entero se me ralentizaba al visionar vídeos o incluso al cambiar entre escritorios.
El caso es que antes trabajaba a 1440x900 en mi LG L194WT perfectamente tras configurar el archivo xorg.conf, pero tras instalar los drivers oficiales de nVidia (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9625-pkg1.run) parece ser que pasa olímpicamente de ésa configuración. La utilidad de nVidia X Server Settings me da a elegir entre una larga lista de resoluciones que sólo llegan hasta 1280x1024, y el panel de configuración de KDE me hace lo mismo, sólo me deja seleccionar las resoluciones que ya he activado previamente en el panel de nvidia, por lo que ni haciendo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg puedo elegir 1440x900 bajo los drivers nvidia.

Podría trabajar perfectamente con una resolución algo menor SI estuviese bien proporcionada, las letras se ven muy achatadas en 1280x960 y muy alargadas en 1280x800, assí que la única solución que veo es añadir la opción 1440x900 directamente al panel de nVidia, pero... cómo?

Editar xorg.cong
Puedes editar a mano el archivo xorg.conf (sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf)
Busca la sección "Screen" y añade a las resoluciones que ya existen, la que quieres tener.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh

y escoge solo las resoluciones que te interesen.
Reinicia y ya estara solucionado.
Prueba a eliminar HorizSync y VertRefresh
La mayoría de los monitores modernos son capaces de identificarse correctamente. Si los valores que has especificado no son correctos, estás limitando los modos disponibles, aunque luego los definas en la sección "Screen". Prueba a eliminar la referencia a HorizSync y VertRefresh en "Monitor"
Acuérdate de hacer copia de seguridad de /etc/X11/xorg.conf primero :-)
